I built Porter Smith Law around direct involvement, limited matters, and close attention to the work itself.

The practice is deliberately small. I handle the strategy and most of the work myself, keep the docket limited, and stay directly accessible to the people I represent.

My background extends beyond the traditional path into private practice. Before and alongside practicing law, I worked in artificial intelligence and business strategy, as well as inside or alongside law firms, banks, wealth management firms, marketing firms, and technology companies. I have also built and helped launch businesses across law, marketing, retail, real estate, and technology.

That experience affects how I approach legal problems. I am interested not only in what the law permits, but in how a decision affects revenue streams, operations, and relationships. I look for the connections between those issues rather than treating each one as a separate legal category: how a contract shapes a business model, how data practices affect trust and leverage, how financial structure changes available options, and how a private family decision fits into the larger direction of a person’s financial and social affairs. That is why my practice brings together commercial contracts and disputes, data and AI, civil and property disputes, and Concierge Counsel.

I tend to become deeply involved in the matters I take on. I want to understand the facts thoroughly, identify the pressure points other people have missed, and consider more than the obvious solution. I move quickly, communicate directly, and try to make the experience of working with a lawyer considerably easier than the problem that brought the client to me.
